Sex Therapy
What do envision when you hear the term “sex therapy?”
You might have a number of images come to mind, from sexological research to sex coaching to sexual surrogacy. So, allow me to describe what my work as a sex therapist looks like today. As a somatic psychotherapist, I view sexuality as a potential source of healing, embodiment, and authentic relating.
Perhaps you are coming to therapy because you want support for a specific issue related to your sexuality, such as:
Trauma
Shame
Social stigma and the marginalization of your identities and relationship orientation
Limited experience of sensation in the body
Exploring how neurodivergence shows up in the bedroom
Exploration of a new sexual orientation or experience of gender
Desires you struggle to accept or express, like kink or non-monogamy
Navigating the emotional terrain of non-monogamy
Changes in your desire
Processing the impact a medical issue or disability may have on your sexual embodiment
I work with individuals who have specific issues like these, or who simply value having a therapist who is comfortable talking about sexual issues when they arise. If you are looking for a couples therapist, a sex coach to teach you new techniques, a sexual surrogate to relate to you in a sexual dynamic, or a medical practitioner to diagnose a medical issue, I can refer you to those practitioners. I love to connect clients with other sex-positive and gender-inclusive providers.
I am currently pursuing a sex therapist certification from the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) through the Sexual Health Alliance. Anticipated completion is early 2027.
